The Mensch Academy is inspired, down to earth Judaism for kids! At The Mensch Academy families engage in serious Jewish learning– building character, confidence, and a sense of who they are are as Jews in the world. Respecting each child’s mind and spirit, the Mensch Academy is Jewish learning for the next generation.
Families with children in 3rd-6th grades in 2016-17 are invited to be a part of our launch year, where we will test ideas and experiment with new ways of doing Jewish spiritual learning for kids and families. Throughout the year, using art and other modes of expression, we will explore themes based on Jewish Values, Torah, and Prayer, enabling children to creatively explore their own questions and ideas.
The Mishkan Space – 4001 n Ravenswood Suite 403a
*Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 (drop-off program for kids.)
*One Sunday a month from 4:00-6:00 (parents and kids)
*Two Shabbat family programs over the year.
*3rd-5th graders: You will explore Jewish themes through text study, music, art, and conversation. You will develop your own big questions and ideas that you will express through designing and creating your own projects.
*6th graders: In addition to all of the learning mentioned above, you are beginning your journey toward becoming B’nai Mitzvah! On monthly Sundays, you and your parents will explore big Jewish ideas and questions through text and guided discussion.
In 7th grade, you will prepare for your cohort group B’nai Mitzvah ceremony, which will take place at the end of 7th grade. At Mishkan, you will celebrate your B’nai Mitzvah with a small community cohort, AND you will design and research your own intensive Jewish project. Everyone in your cohort will present their projects at the B’nai MItzvah ceremony, along with reading from the Torah, and co-creating the ceremony itself. At Mensch Academy, your journey toward B’nai MItzvah is personally meaningful, and celebrated with a community of peers.
